Like most Americans and most of the world, I was up until 5 in the morning watching live on CNN the election coverage.

I was far away from the US, but being together with a few other volunteers, all of us fighting sleep to watch Obama’s victory speech on a 14 inch television with reception like we were trying to steal cable, made it worth it. I don’t know how you people celebrated his win, or even if you celebrated at all, but it is in fact a big moment in history and I hope that you appreciated it as that.

I wish I could have been back in the US for it, but being in Africa, watching Obama become the first African American President of the most powerful nation in the world was pretty special.
