All the hard work of the Bangou people culminated on a Thursday, when the French delegation of congressmen arrived in Bangou. Everyone that was anyone was there, from the Chief, to the Prefet, the Governor, the Mayor who happens to be the mother in law of the president of Cameroon, and me, an American PC volunteer.

Almost everyone from Bangou had come to the fete and watched as the Chief put on a grand show of traditional dances for his friends from France.

This is an example what kind of extraordinary community Bangou is. The French delegation had come to Cameroon for only a few days, and only did one “personal” visit, and it was to Bangou.

The French congressmen were also fortunate enough to be given a traditional title by the Chief. The French delegation had put on a great show for the Chief when he went to visit France and promised to help in the development of Bangou in the future. So when they came to Bangou, the Chief was happy to show his appreciation with a title for each of the congressmen.

In a way, it is validates the old parable, “He that has once done you a kindness will be more ready to do you another, than one who you yourself have obliged.”

After the fete, riding in the car with the Chief, he told me he now wants to have a reception for the American delegation. I told him, I’ll let my friends know.

So here is the official invitation. April 3rd and 4th, 2009, the Bangou cultural fete, I hope at least one of you who has been a kind contributor to AADB to come to Bangou and experience African hospitality. You see things that in maybe a few decades may be gone because of modernism or what we call development, but which can only be seen in Africa, and more specifically, Bangou.

The Chief making his way to the ceremony. The guy holding the stick on the far left is doing it to keep the rain away. It worked, it didn’t rain the whole ceremony although we are in the middle of the rainy season.
